Susan Thomson joined MacDonnells Law in 1997 and was appointed a partner in 2004.
Susan is a member of MacDonnells' litigation department, practising in general commercial litigation and is an accredited family law specialist.

Experience
In relationships law, Susan has experience in matrimonial and de facto property; children's issues including contact, residence, relocation and recovery; divorce; binding financial agreement; de-facto spouse co-habitation and separation agreements; surrogacy; adoption and domestic violence.
Susan's general commercial litigation practice includes plaintiff and defendant work in a broad spectrum of areas, including insurance, contract, negligence, trade practices, local government litigation, commercial leases, residential tenancies, debt recovery, enforcement, and corporate and personal insolvency.
During her career, Susan has written many articles and given presentations on a variety of legal issues, including at tourism operators workplace health and safety seminar, Women in Law at a Women in Careers evenings, Cairns Breakfast Club's The Great Debate, Secretary's Day and Cairns Business Women's Association. Susan has taken an active roll in tertiary and secondary legal studies, including tutoring at James Cook University Cairns Campus in Commercial Law and related areas and in participating in and chairing Legal Studies Seminar debates, mock court competitions and essay awards. Susan also participates regularly in community and business based organisation events, including Cairns Business Women's Club and the Australian Institute of Management
